SHOUT OUTS: A “real world” clinic on child seat safety was part of a special national training course recently completed by Elmwood Park Police Detective Chris Liptak and Officer Dave Meyers.
The 32-hour training course was given by The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration over four days and included lectures, discussions of new issues, role playing and hands-on practice with both child safety seats and vehicle belt systems, Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
“The officers took both written and hands-on tests, and participated in a ‘real world’ CPS clinic or child safety seat checkpoint,” Foligno said this afternoon.
Under NJ law, children under 8 years old who weigh less than 80 pounds must be secured in a child safety seat or booster seat in the rear vehicle seat.
A child may sit up front if there’s no rear seat, but he or she must secured by a safety or booster seat.)
(NOTE: A rear-facing infant seat should never be placed in a front seat with a passenger-side airbag unless the vehicle is equipped with an air bag on/off switch.”
